The name comes from the wallpaper design by William Morris, 'Strawberry Thief'. This wallpaper decorates our bar and front room. The inspiration for the name can be seen from the front room of the bar: the Edward Everard print works building opposite.
In the 1800s, Broad Street was dominated by printmaking. Everard, a great admirer of the Arts and Craft movement, and William Morris, commissioned W J Neatby to design the façade of his new building. Completed in 1900, his detailed design feature Morris’s typeface and uses tiles produced by Doulton and Co.
We specialise in the best Belgian and local beers We also stock a range of hand picked ciders, wines, spirits, and soft drinks from other great independent businesses. Our food is inspired by the continental beer bars of Belgium and surrounding, but celebrating the best local and seasonal produce, all hand cooked on the premises with our resident chef Robert Miles (not the music producer!).
